lyrics
Holy hell is it cold in this old apartment
February freeze stuck to my jacket pocket
Good god I could barely get the engine going
Turn on over break on through the early morning
Don't you let them sleeping dogs lie, oh don't you
All them good times passing you by, oh they flew before you even knew
Dreamt I was sleeping in a bed of good sunshine
Dozing off the afternoon of my long life
And I’ve soaking up the sweet loving that you gave me
Woke up in the haze that I've been living in lately
Don't you let them sleeping dogs lie, oh don't you
All them good times passing you by, oh they flew before you even knew
Don’t you let them sleeping dogs lie, don’t you

Jason Isbell is a master storyteller, and his music gives it so much more room to shine. Every song is so lovingly produced with amazing lyrics to make them stand out even more. RabidRabbit
Bright and skipping songs that foreground the sound of the banjo and fingerstyle guitar in music that feels timeless. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2020
This album speaks to the continuum of African diasporic culture that is central to the vibrant canon of Americana folk music. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 29, 2020
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
