lyrics
The only colors on the road, smeared red of break lights
Water streaming down facades, frothing at the mouths of sewers
Sit and wait for the roadside flowers
I’ll be sitting here for days, giving all my time away
Just so I can see you soon
Garland drips lazy down the hall, lying on my doorstep, empty pack of cigarettes
Smoked up your last one, hope you don’t mind
While I was talking to myself, killing all my time
Sit and wait for the roadside flowers
I’ll be sitting here for days, giving all my time away
Just so I can see you soon
Should’ve wished for a sunny day, a clear view, drifting across the water
A cold winds blowing over you, could’ve been mistaken, quietly heartbreaking
Sit and wait for the roadside flowers
I’ll be sitting here for days, giving all my time away
Just so I can see you soon
And I waited here for days, I gave all my time away
Just so I can see you

Jason Isbell is a master storyteller, and his music gives it so much more room to shine. Every song is so lovingly produced with amazing lyrics to make them stand out even more. RabidRabbit
Bright and skipping songs that foreground the sound of the banjo and fingerstyle guitar in music that feels timeless. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2020
This album speaks to the continuum of African diasporic culture that is central to the vibrant canon of Americana folk music. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 29, 2020

The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
