lyrics
Sunflare in your eye, you swore you saw it coming
Fresh tracks across the mind, could see my thoughts running
Late night mid July, last I got to thinking
Hung up left to dry, caught right on ceiling
But it all keeps coming round, all the daffodils and rose petals
Sunshine slipping in on the patio at your mothers house
Woke up, foggy window panes, sitting still staring at the pouring rain
All feels different but it looks the same, got up early and I’m tired again
Don’t it sit better with a proper view, hot tar burning up the avenue
Long gone before I even knew, I can’t remember what I said to you
But it all keeps coming round, all the daffodils and rose petals
Sunshine slipping in on the patio at your mothers house
A lifetime passing by, left you with the feeling
Too much wasting time and all that's worths been leaving
Touched up after thought, must’ve lost its meaning
Woke up after dark, guess I was only dreaming
But it all keeps coming round, all the daffodils and rose petals
Sunshine slipping in on the patio at your mothers house

Jason Isbell is a master storyteller, and his music gives it so much more room to shine. Every song is so lovingly produced with amazing lyrics to make them stand out even more. RabidRabbit
Bright and skipping songs that foreground the sound of the banjo and fingerstyle guitar in music that feels timeless. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2020
This album speaks to the continuum of African diasporic culture that is central to the vibrant canon of Americana folk music. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 29, 2020
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
