lyrics
All the lemons in the window grow cold in the winter time
And everything is feeling fine, all cool and yellow
Well don’t it feel good, all the moon and the sunshine
Saw that ya had rang twice just to say hello
While the treetops glisten got caught in a rain cloud
Getting pretty cold out, misplaced my jacket
But it’s warm when the sun hits, lights up your eyelids
There’s darks days a’ coming but i think that I can hack it
Such a bright morning, all green and blue
She said I can feel god in the soles of my shoes
Well it’s a long life you’re living when you’re living out a long life
Sure it’s been a short time, but it’s so good to see ya!
All the sad songs, bouncing off the roof tops
I’m sitting on the same block, but I swear that I can hear it
Now I’m packed up, alibi is air-tight, everything is alright
Left without the chorus and the speakers
But I still feel all the vibrations, everything your saying
Coming back screaming through the tweeters
Such a bright morning, all green and blue
She said I can feel god in the soles of my shoes
Well I woke up just before the birds did, thought about what you said
Now I’m just swimming in the feeling
With my new shoes, sitting on my new feet
Walking down a new street, singing songs I learnt when I was dreaming
Such a bright morning, all green and blue
She said I can feel god in the soles of my shoes

Jason Isbell is a master storyteller, and his music gives it so much more room to shine. Every song is so lovingly produced with amazing lyrics to make them stand out even more. RabidRabbit
Bright and skipping songs that foreground the sound of the banjo and fingerstyle guitar in music that feels timeless. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2020
This album speaks to the continuum of African diasporic culture that is central to the vibrant canon of Americana folk music. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 29, 2020
The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
